An Overview of Class A Motorhomes
For the biggest and most luxurious RVs, there’s no better place to turn than Class A motorhomes. These campers are some of the best the market has to offer, which is why many owners choose these RVs as their full-time residence! Read on to learn more about the features of Class A motorhomes.
What is a Class A Motorhome?
To better understand these models, it’s easier to break them down. A motorhome is the only classification of RV that comes with its drivetrain. This means there’s no hitching process necessary, so you can just hop in the driver’s seat and hit the road.
Motorhomes are such a large group of vehicles that they further need to be broken down into subcategories, known as classes. Class A motorhomes are easily recognizable by their bus-style chassis with their flat front and panoramic windshield. This makes them pretty distinguishable, even when there are no other motorhomes to compare them to, but they’re also considered to be some of the biggest and most luxurious RVs around.
They can easily exceed 30 feet in length and can even reach up to 45 feet. They also have more interior height and often feature more luxurious amenities, like multiple entertainment centers, more comfortable master bedrooms, and bigger living areas. It’s one of the reasons they’re the most common choice for full-time RVers.
Driving Tips
You’ll need to brace yourself for some unique challenges with Class A motorhomes, though, the biggest of which is learning to drive them. Class A motorhomes don’t handle the way your commuter vehicle does. Some of the biggest changes include different foot pedal placements and a higher center of gravity, which means you’ll need to be extra careful on those turns.
Another important change to note is the brakes. Your commuter vehicle uses hydraulic brakes, but a Class A motorhome uses air brakes. This will make maintenance and repairs easier and safer, but it means you won’t be able to stop on a dime. Rather than apply more pressure to slow down faster, you’ll need to apply constant pressure. You’ll need to spend some time practicing to get used to this and keep in mind your limitations so you keep your distance from the vehicle in front of you when on the road.
