Spring RV Maintenance Tips

If your RV has been tucked away in winter storage all season long, it’s about time to bring your rig back into the open air and start getting ready for the warm weather. However, you can’t simply start up your engine and hit the open road. Your RV will need some real TLC after its long stay in storage, and we recommend following our maintenance tips below to get it back in tip-top shape.

Inspect Your RV

The first thing you’ll want to do after pulling your RV out of storage is to give it a thorough inspection. Begin by examining the exterior to see if there are any cracks or holes that need to be patched, and make note of any doors or windows where you might want to apply weather stripping. Next, step inside to ensure that important components, such as your light switches and plugs are all working properly. You’ll also want to open all the cabinets, closets, windows, and doors on your RV to help air out your model.

Flush Fluids

There are several fluids that will need your attention once you begin preparing your RV spring. For starters, you’ll need to flush, rinse, and refill all of your water tanks and make sure to run the pump for at least 5 minutes to ensure there’s no antifreeze left in the system. Your engine oil will also need to be replaced and—if you didn’t add a fuel stabilizer to your tank— you’ll need to flush your gas tank as well. Don’t forget to examine other engine fluids, such as your coolant, transmission, and brake fluid, for signs of condensation or debris—as these are signs the fluid needs to be immediately flushed and replaced.
